Belly Gut

AM hopped up on this bench by herself, put her feet up and told us, "I need Dr. Paul to check the baby in my belly." I have NO clue where or how she got that or how she knew who Dr. Paul was, but she is correct in his profession and I guess the bench did have the place for feet to be put up?! What a funny kid.

I was sick as a dog while pregnant and lost almost 30 lbs.

I delivered a baby and was 10 lbs LESS than when I got pregnant.

Now, I have gained a few but whats worse is that everything that used to be tight(er) is now just flab. I don't know if you other Momma's have had this too, but it seems like this time my skin is just stretchier.

All of these other skinny Mama's out there just say they keep fit by chasing two kids around. I thought that would be the case for me and while I am BUSY and I feel like I am getting the workout of a life time, I don't think its as effective as I am hoping.

The belly gut has got to go. Unfortunately its not cute and I cant hide behind the line that there is a baby in there....and it wasn't very cute when Anne Margaret asked me a few weeks ago if there "was a baby in Mommy's tummy?" as she patted it ever so carefully. Um, no sweetie. That's just a bit of what we call flab.

So I bought a pedometer. Not a fancy one, just a cheap one. I thought, I am moving ALL day long, surely I am walking miles and burning the calories.

Well according to yesterday, here is my day and here are the stats.

I got up and put it on. Got both kids up, fed, packed them, packed the car, loaded them and drove to Atlanta. I have been up and down stairs for nap time, feedings, taking clothes in and back and forth. My friend hosted a Trunk Show and I had CT with me there too. In fact, he wouldn't let me put him down as I got dressed, so I wore him and walked with him for an hour then. I walked around all night long doing my Trunk Show thing until I got home and hung out with AM for a bit before nursing CT and putting him to bed. Then I chased AM again and got her to bed. Then I sat down. I literally was so busy all day that I never ate breakfast, lunch or dinner and just had a slice of turkey here and there.

The before is a bit scary but I straightened my hair, did make up and bounced little man to sleep!...and for all of you who say why do I wear mascara?? This is the picture that explains it. Washed out {left} not so scary {right!}.

Sounds busy, right? I chased all day, worked this evening and the only time sitting I had was when I was in the car for an hour and a half to Atlanta.

Here were the stats::

Steps taken: 2,819
Calories burned: 77.75
Miles walked: 1.336

Either my pedometer is really a $15 piece of crap, its lying to me or I need to find another method of exercising. Regardless and even if the count was off by another 2,800, I would have only burned 150 calories from walking around - and my heart rate was never up. Not a way to lose the gut, unfortunately.

It kind of came down to that. I needed a method to exercise. I don't mind walking but its not enough. I need to be walking fast, running slow or doing something to get my heart rate up. I don't have a double stroller yet {we were waiting til it got warmer to get one as I really haven't had a need yet} and the effort to get out the door to go for a run is ridiculous....Think nurse one, feed one, potty one, change one, pump other side and go as fast I can before a certain little two year old needs to potty or the little man is hungry for his next meal. By the time I get ready, inevitably, a cold front has swept in or its raining or AM has been in time out for the past 15 minutes and I am too exhausted from that fight to go.

After talking about gym memberships for weeks, we realized that wasn't a good solution as the timing of it all for both CT3 and I to use it {and the cost} just didn't make sense. It took more time away from each other and that was the last thing we needed.

Long story short, we kind of decided on a whim to buy an elliptical. Its not a high end but it wasn't an el cheap o deal either. We took the kids and went to a few stores and took them for a test run. I shopped online, did comparisons and we made a decision.

We don't have a plan for it other than put it smack in the middle of our living room and let me work out as I watch kids or give CT3 a place to burn energy on early in the morning before work.

It will probably be an eyesore, but by golly, this belly gut will be on its way out of town.

I am super excited about our new little purchase and I think it will be good for us all. I am also discouraged by the fact that apparently chasing kids isn't as great of a workout as I thought it would be!!!

I will report in soon - and maybe by summer, be ready to jump back into my itsy bitsy, teeny weeny, yellow polka dot bikini! ;)

  1. My FitBit says I walk an average of 2 miles a day and burn about 2000 calories just living. It definitely helps keep me aware of sitting around on my bum all day but I'm disappointed that these babies aren't working me harder hahaha. Definitely thought I'd see these pounds fly off but I still have ten to go before I reach pre-preggo weight and then really another 15 on top of that to be ready for the summer!!! I SO wish I could convince hubby to get an elliptical. I had a treadmill growing up but we sold it a few years back. Of course, that was when I got serious about running. ;/ Such a mistake!

  2. What a wonderful purchase! We did a treadmill so Brett can use it too (he can't handle an elliptical) but I dream of adding one to our home one day!
