Better Luck Next Week?

I went to a new women's Bible study yesterday. It has child care and I am super excited about getting plugged in with other women.

I woke Anne Margaret early to stay on our new schedule and she was a bit fussy but I attributed that to the fact that she stayed up playing in her crib til 1 AM.

late night + early morn = grumpy people

Math even I am capable of doing.

She was fussy but compliant and felt a tad warm but she was ALL bundled up in her crib and the house was warm so we went on. All was fine, I went to Bible study, she went and played and I kept Brother Bear with me.

...that wasn't the best idea.

He didn't eat well that morning, missed his normal nap time and was a tad fussy. All of this - plus a new place for me led me to keep my 10 week old with me while I checked it all out.

Dear all other ladies in attendance, I am sorry for my tooting, smelling, spitting up and fussy little man! Next time I will be leaving him and I appreciate you being nice and acting like nothing was going on...well except the lady who turned around and smiled after he let out the largest, juiciest toot you have ever heard. Thanks, Lauren and her rooting, tooting kid.

But for real, I fed Baby Bro and he fussed. I held him and he fussed. Then he let out a major bubbly toot and about four ladies turned around. The girl next to me was really sweet and just giggled. The lady in front turned around, realized that it was coming from someone under the age of 30 and the other lady said, "Breast milk baby. I know it when I smell it."

I just smiled and gave him a few minutes to finish filling his diaper and then took him to the bathroom for the change. Well, I forgot my changing thing too, so I just slapped a few paper towels under his tush and changed him. It wasn't messy but I think the lady who saw me thought I was a bit off!

Anyway, the Bible study was good, Baby Bro was fed, relieved and finally fell asleep and the people were nice. Next week I will miss but then I hope to be in a better routine and I wont be holding the babe the whole time.

We went and picked up AM and she was flush and HOT. Fabulous. We got home and she went to the couch and laid down. If you know my kid, you know that this is a tell tale sign she doesn't feel well. Girlfriend doesn't slow down for anything.

We got her home, took her temp and it was 100.3. We are prone to ear infections around here and I wanted her on something ASAP as we have a big week coming up. I called the doc and we got a quick nap for the kids, I pumped and we were off to see the doc.

She was pitiful and just wanted to be held. This left this little guy to fend for himself and after a pile of blankets, he was able to just sip away on his bottle sans hands.

Long story short, AM cried and wailed and cried and snuggled the entire time at the doctors. Her ears were clear but throat was red and lymph nodes swollen. They swabbed her throat and pricked her finger which both sent her into hysterics.

She didn't want me to hold Brother Bear too, but he was crying and I can only handle so much. They either all piled on or Mommy was going to join them in the tears.

AM had a paper bracelet on too and that upset her. She wanted Dr. W to cut it off and so she TOLD him to "go get scissors." He said yes ma'am and complied as any gentleman would do - and I appreciated him taking the time from his normal doctor duties to find safety scissors and cut off the bracelet to avoid another meltdown.

The strep test and blood work all came back fine, so we were told to treat the symptoms, try to keep her away from brother and to let the virus run its course.

She was pitiful all night long. Her fever was around 103 and we dosed her Tylenol. CT3 gave her a bath and I fell asleep for about 45 minutes. Then we set up her new bed.

...in the corner of our room.

Yep. As if we weren't having a hard enough time with naps, schedules, etc, we will now never ever be able to get her out of this bed and back into the crib. Cue the transition to big girl room??

Honestly, I really don't care. I want her better and if it means we get stuck with her on this little cot, whatever. CT3 was trying to read to her and only got through one and a half books and she was OUT. Poor, tired, little thing.

Then she woke up about 2 hours later and it all hit the fan. Her temp had risen to 105.3.

I freaked out and just prayed. We took off her clothes, got wet rags, water and tried to slowly cool her off. It was getting close for more meds, so we dosed those as well. This was probably around midnight last night.

We did not call the doctor or go to the ER as aside from being hot and tired from over exhaustion, she was still TRYING to be her cute playful self. I did try to call the after hours place, but we decided that our game plan would be to try to cool her off, dose her the meds, wait and hour and then reevaluate. If anything changed or did not help her, we would have headed out to the ER.

An hour later, her temp was down to 103 and she was getting tired. She wanted CT3 to sleep with her so him being the good Daddy he is, took the first shift.

She fell asleep and CT3 went to his bed. I was playing on my computer in the living room.

A few hours later she wakes up wailing. She is inconsolable and I hold her, we sit on the potty, I hold her some more.

We take her temp and its 98.7.

Anyway, since it was normal and since it had been 4 hours since her last med, I don't even think we gave her any more. I got out the sleeping bag, curled up next to her cot and we held hands and went to sleep.

We slept til 11 this morning and were wiped from being up all night.

Today, she has had no fever and not even a runny nose to show for it all.

Going from a 105 to nada in 12 hours is a bit weird to me, but I am thankful that AM is okay!

So, I was all about the whole schedule thing this week, but it will have to happen next week - or the next as we are a bit crazy next week and a schedule will be near impossible! For now, I need to get her well and just take it one day at a time!!

...next mommy post will be asking you all about how to get a child off of a cot and out of your room! I am afraid I have done this to myself. :)

  1. Yikes! That is quite a day. I bring Nolan in with me for MOPs and I leave sweaty and disheveled every time! I hope AM feels better and you're able to get some sleep!

  2. Goodness!!! That makes me exhausted just to read it! I'm so glad that she's feeling better, though! I've heard before that an over-tired (read: EXHAUSTED) child can run a fever due to needing sleep. So maybe that was it??
